14 Trends to Ditch in 2014

14 Trends to Ditch in 2014

As we make our New Year's resolutions and swear off sweets (it won't last), we're also purging our closets of the fashion trends we wish we never wasted our money on last year (and crossing our fingers that celebrities will do the same). Last January, we said a silent prayer to get rid of mullet dresses, excessive studs, wedge sneakers, and half-shaved heads, all of which seem to be finally disappearing. This time around, we're looking to finally be done with 2013's big offenders: crop tops (ugh), angora (ew), and arm parties (enough). Behold, the 14 items to donate, sell, revisit in the (way, way) distant future, or simply banish forever.

Crop tops
The recent '90s resurgence brought back many fashion trends of the past, but not all should have been embraced by the masses. Flannel shirts and floral baby dolls are comfy and flattering, but midriff-baring shirts? Unless you're 13, you may want to rethink wearing one.

Crazy cutouts
Celebs are always looking for creative ways to reveal a little skin, but there isn't enough double-sided tape in the world for some of the gravity-defying creations we saw on the red carpet in 2013. Even thigh-high slits seem modest by comparison.

Statement necklaces
Is that a collar or jewelry? Is that dress ornamentation or a necklace? We're tired of guessing. Bigger is not better in 2014. Watch in wonder as that kink in your neck suddenly goes away.

Angora
This fuzzy fabric has somehow managed to become more P.C. than fur, and many stores stocked up on mohair items this fall. Sadly, reports have emerged that illustrate extremely inhumane treatment of the poor rabbits, and retailers like H&M have made public apologies and pulled all items from their shelves. Here's to hoping other shops follow suit.
